PARTIAL KNEE REPLACEMENT
A regional leader in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, NJ orthopedist Dr. Robert A. Kayal, MD performs over 200 joint replacements each year. Dr. Kayal introduced outpatient joint replacement surgery to New Jersey and the Tri-State area, and conducted the first-ever minimally invasive partial knee replacements at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and at Patient Care Associates, LLC in Englewood, NJ.
What is Partial Knee Replacement?
Partial knee replacement, also called unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, is used to treat traumatic injuries or severe knee osteoarthritis. The procedure requires a smaller incision than conventional knee replacement, since physicians retain non-damaged knee sections and restore only damaged compartments. Because it is less invasive, partial knee replacement allows for faster recovery than total knee replacement. After removing impaired cartilage, the affected knee compartment is replaced with an appropriate implant material and healing begins!
Benefits of Partial Knee Replacement
Long-term studies have shown excellent outcomes with partial knee replacement, and Kayal Orthopaedic patients experience faster rehabilitation and an expedited return to activity. They also enjoy other benefits, including:
